Investigating the Death of Cadet Akhona Geveza

We advised the family of Cadet Akhona Geveza on legal issues following the tragic death of their daughter in June 2010 whilst undergoing her experiential cadet training on the container ship, the MV “Safmarine Kariba.”

We assisted in the procuring of evidence relevant to the cause and circumstances of Akhona’s death and advising the family on their rights of recourse against third parties. The case raised very important issues relating to the training of cadets in South Africa, generally, as well as practical matters relating to the conditions of their service on ships.
